Students in England have the equivalent of 50p a week left over from their loans after paying for accommodation, research by the the student accommodation charity Unipol and the Higher Education Policy Institute (Hepi) found last month.

Meanwhile, the proportion doing paid work alongside their studies is rising, with most students supporting themselves saying it is negatively affecting their learning.
