Southern England woke up to ongoing sleet and snow and the Scottish Highlands recorded a low overnight temperature of -15.4C.
More than 100 people were stranded overnight in the Jamaica Inn pub on Bodmin Moor, Cornwall, due to snow blanketing the A30.
The Met Office‘s amber warning for snow and ice – its second-highest level – was issued for London until 11am, with yellow warnings still in place across much of the rest of the UK.
Flights were cancelled at Heathrow and Bristol airports while Southeastern and Transport for Wales warned of timetable alterations. Northern Ireland and Scotland are expected to miss out on wintry showers that will persist into the evening for the rest of the country.

More than 100 people were stranded in a pub overnight due to heavy snow in Cornwall.
Motorists were forced to abandon their cars on the A30 in Bodmin Moor, before seeking refuge in the Jamaica Inn pub.
"People were fed up of being in a cold car and they were running out of fuel," general manager, Sammy Wheeler told the BBC.
Up to 12cm of snow fell last night in parts of the country, with a further 10cm possible on higher ground in central-southern England.
Cumbria saw 8cm.
The Met Office said danger from snow remained on Friday morning.
Police in London are appealing for the mother of a newborn baby abandoned in a park to come forward.
The infant was found in Newham, east London, amid freezing weather on Thursday night.
Officers said they feared for the woman's safety and worried she may need medical attention.
Metropolitan Police officers were called to a park near Roman Road at 10.15pm yesterday. Paramedics also arrived, taking the girl to hospital where she is in stable condition.

Flights are being disrupted at Bournemouth airport.
The airport has said its airfield is closed "until further notice'' due to snow.
It said: "Clearing operations are under way and a further update will be made at 0700.''
Snow is keeping train drivers from getting to work, National Rail has warned.
"As such, trains between Basingstoke and Reading and also between Reading and London Paddington may be cancelled or revised at short notice," the body said.
In addition, disruption between Three Bridges and Gatwick airport is expected until 8am and severe weather "is resulting in trains to and from Willesden Junction being heavily delayed".
Commuters may be entitled to compensation.
