UK snap election 'will just increase confusion' on Brexit, historian says

TALKING EUROPE FRANCE 24

Our guest is Oxford University historian and sociologist Theodore Zeldin. As Britain prepares for a December 12 snap election, he explains why he sees no easy way out of the Brexit chaos. "This is an election which will just increase the confusion, and we will be back where we started", he tells FRANCE 24.

The poll on December 12 will be the UK's third general election in four years, as the country struggles to overcome divisions ignited by the 2016 referendum on its membership of the European Union.

Our guest believes the poll is unlikely to fully resolve the Brexit issue. "The political parties are very divided inside themselves. A vote for Conservatives or Labour could mean anything. The election is a way of avoiding a referendum", Zeldin tells FRANCE 24.
