The UK will continue to experience an ongoing period of cooler weather over the weekend, with heavy showers expected to fall in some areas.
A low-pressure system travelling south from Scotland is expected to bring with it downpours and gales on Friday night.
Scotland, in particular, will likely see persistent rain and increasingly strong winds.
Saturday is then expected to see rain or showers in many parts of the UK, with the heaviest showers predicted to fall on northern and eastern England.
The windy and cool conditions will see the mercury hovering in the mid-teens for most parts.
The weather is expected to improve slightly on Sunday, however, as conditions become drier and less windy.
The spell of cooler temperatures comes after the UK experienced its sunniest spring and driest May since records began.
Alex Deakin, a meteorologist at the Met Office, told the Independent: “The weather has definitely changed, and there’s no sign of a return to warm and sunny weather, certainly for the next few days.”
The Met Office recorded more than 573 hours of sunshine between March 1 and May 27, beating the previous record of 555.3 hours which was set in 1948.
The highest temperature of the year so far was 28.3C recorded in the Highlands of Scotland on May 29.
