Margate – with its Dreamland amusement park, eccentric Shell Grotto and seafront diners – attracted thousands of holidaymakers until the 1970s. But later the ailing seaside town's faded grandeur became merely a reminder of a glorious bygone era.

However, last year Margate received £100,000 as part of Mary Portas's regeneration scheme and is one of only two towns on the scheme to have more shops and other high street businesses than when the scheme began.

Share your images or video of seaside towns such as Margate, Morecambe, Brighton, Blackpool and Hastings. What were they like then compared to now? What regeneration projects have helped bring a new lease of life?

Please include the date and place of where your photograph was taken.

We'll feature a selection of the best images in a gallery on the site.

You can browse through images submitted so far here from paddling in the sea at Clacton in 1932, a picnic on Eastbourne cliffs in 1957, a 'spooky' amusement arcade game in Cleethorpes in the 70s to the continuing restoration of Winter Gardens theatre in Morecambe.
