UK's worst airports for 2019 unveiled - and the best ones too

Belfast International airport has been named the UK's worst airport for 2019, with the lowest overall customer rating in Which? Travel's annual survey.

To determine the rankings, Which? surveyed 4,499 of its members, looking at more than 6,000 airport experiences.

It asked members to rate a number of factors such as airport seating (for example the number available and how comfortable they are), toilets, baggage reclaim, staff, prices in shops and food outlets, and queues for bag drops, check-in desks, security and passport control.

Belfast International had low scores on the likes of queues at security, seating and staff, with an overall customer rating of 42 per cent.

Meanwhile, London Luton was revealed as the worst of the UK's large airports (those with over 10 million passengers every year).

With an overall score of 43 per cent in the survey, it has been named the second-worst airport in the UK.

Closely behind in the large airport category was Manchester T3 with an overall score of 47 per cent, and London Stansted with a score of 49 per cent.

On the flip side, the survey also uncovered the UK's best airport; Doncaster Sheffield.

The airport took the top spot for the third year running, with an overall score of 86 per cent.

Meanwhile London Southend and Southampton airports were named the second and third best UK airports, respectively.

Which? Travel’s Naomi Leach said: "It is clear that smaller airports are generally outperforming their larger counterparts with seamless security checks and friendly staff making the biggest impression with flyers.

"So if you have the luxury of choice when it comes to which airport you fly from, choose Doncaster Sheffield over Leeds Bradford, Southend over Luton, Edinburgh over Aberdeen and Belfast City over Belfast International for a smoother start to your trip."
