UK’s trendiest baby names unveiled

  • Muhammad has been named the most popular baby boy name in England and Wales for the second consecutive year, remaining in the top 10 since 2016.
  • Olivia and Amelia retained their positions as the top two choices for girls for the third year running, with Olivia featuring in the top three since 2006.
  • Isla dropped out of the top three girls' names, being replaced by Lily, according to data from the Office for National Statistics (ONS).
  • Three variant spellings of Muhammad (Mohammed and Mohammad) also appeared in the top 100 baby boys' names, alongside the top-ranked spelling.
  • The ONS data indicated a general fall in the popularity of royal names, while some unusual names like Cuthbert and Orchid were given to fewer than five babies.
