UK's top 50 coolest places revealed - see if your town made the list

A Cornish fishing village with just 1,500 residents is officially the coolest place in the country.

Polperro has taken the crown as the gnarliest and most laid back spot in the whole of the UK, according to a public poll conducted by CBD company Naturecan.

The village packs an outsized cultural punch, providing the location for the Hairy Bikers and Echo Beach TV shows, and generally being a relaxed and picturesque place.

It is a popular hang-out for artists in part due to its stunning sunsets and has great access to Looe Island and the Duloe Stone Circle.

Polperro's most famous son is a 19th century sailor who was discovered to have stolen his midshipman's beer and was therefore purposefully marooned on a desert island by his crew.

At the entrance to the village is the 14th century Crumplehorn Inn and Mill, which boasts an impressively restored water wheel, while many of its cottages are draped in flowers.

In second place is Wells-next-the-sea in Norfolk, a county better known as the birthplace of Alan Partridge than as a hotbed of cool.

The town is hailed as one of the loveliest towns in country, boasting as it does sweeping sandy beaches, colourful beach huts on the harbour, and great crabbing spots.

It also has its very own carnival, which takes place annually for residents and visitors, and is well worth watching with a cone of high-quality chips.

Marlow in Buckinghamshire has scooped the bronze.

The Thameside town is home to the likes of Tom Kerridge, Russell Brand, and Lorraine Kelly and is known for its natural beauty.

It has a lovely town centre made up of historic streets, offering an array of shops, restaurants, wine bars and pubs, which all add to Marlow’s charm.

Morecambe in Lancashire takes a deserving fourth place, having beguiled enough people with its windswept beaches that are perfect for a bit of kite flying.

Visitors are advised to stroll across Morecambe’s award-winning promenade with an ice cream in hand and visit the iconic Eric Morecambe Statue, before stopping for some afternoon tea on the 1930s Midland Hotel’s balcony.

Liverpool's Baltic Triangle has won the fifth place spot.

The area is full of independent traders and made up of bars, cafés, an urban garden, an exhibition space and a live music venue.

Although based in Birmingham, much of Peaky Blinders is filmed in the Baltic Triangle and and a themed bar has been set up in its honour.
