UK’s longest-suffering coronavirus patient has spoken of her miraculous recovery

The UK’s longest-suffering coronavirus patient says it feels like a dream to still be alive after her miraculous recovery.

Fatima Bridle spent an incredible 130 days in hospital after falling ill when she returned to the country from Morocco.

She is now in a recovery ward after 105 days on a ventilator, including 40 days in a coma.

The brave 35-year-old has been battling the virus, pneumonia and sepsis since March - and her husband has now hailed her as a medical miracle.

Fatima told The Sun on Sunday: “They are incredible. I would like to thank every one of the doctors and nurses who have given me a chance of a new life.

"I am happy to be here. It feels like a dream.”

Health Secretary Matt Hancock  said: “I’m absolutely thrilled by this news.

"It proves that no matter who you are, the NHS is there for you and your family.”

Her husband Tracy, 56, revealed the stark warning given within days of going into hospital.

He also fell ill and has not been able to see his wife for five months.

“By the start of the second week I was told she was critical - a nurse said, ‘She’s fighting for life’," he said.

“They were putting them on ventilators and turning them round like rotisserie chickens to try to make them respond to treatment.

“I had watched loads of reports about Covid by this stage and her situation was killing me.

“She’s my medical miracle. To be on a  ventilator  that long and survive is extraordinary. I can’t wait to see her again.”
