Last year, budget supermarket Lidl took the top spot for the UK's favourite supermarket with Tesco winning in 2019 and Morrisons in 2018.
Now, taking back the crown yet again, is Morrisons having been voted the UK's favourite supermarket for 2021.
The chain was named Supermarket of the Year at the Retail Industry Awards and was praised for how it adapted to the pandemic.
The supermarket chin was also praised for strong financial results which saw sales increase by nine per cent in the last year until the end of March as online capacity was up five-fold with sales tripling, and the launch of the same-day Morrisons on Amazon service which rolled out to 50 towns and cities - including Glasgow and the surrounding area.
The judging panel recognised Morrisons commitment to future-thinking initiatives including a deal to supply the new Amazon Fresh stores as well as it’s Market Kitchen format, which offers customers the opportunity to have their breakfast, lunch or evening meal freshly made-to-order by a chef, at the same time as getting their groceries.
The panel commented: “It did a lot of creative stuff around the pandemic, including food boxes and telephone ordering for vulnerable people. It pushed ahead with things like store openings and its Market Kitchen initiative – which is a really excellent foodservice concept that can be used as a footfall-driver for its stores.
"Everyone should be applauded for their efforts during the year, but for me Morrisons was the stand-out.”
