The analysis revealed a basket of 23 grocery items cost £24.11, making it £9 cheaper than one of its competitors

Which? investigated every day throughout August, checking the prices of 20 food, drink and household items at every major UK supermarket.

Its price comparison basket consisted of a combination of own-label and branded products, including groceries and household essentials, such as apples and eggs, and Hovis wholemeal bread - with Lidl coming in as the cheapest at £24.11.

This means that Lidl beat the big four supermarkets - Tesco, Asda, Sainsbury’s and Morrisons - as well as Aldi by 43p.
