UK's biggest ever Euromillions winner Colin Weir, 71, passes away after short illness

Colin Weir, the UK's biggest lottery winner, has died aged 71 after battling a short illness.

Dad-of-two Colin, who lived in Ayr, won £161,653,000 with his then wife Christine in the Euromillions in 2011.

Their huge win made them the UK’s biggest lottery winners to date.

Die-hard Partick Thistle fan , Colin purchased a majority stake in a seven-figure move through his group Three Black Cats earlier this year, making him the club's biggest shareholder.

His lawyer confirmed the news of Colin’s passing late tonight.

A statement read: “It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Colin Weir early today after a short illness.

“We would ask for privacy for his family and friends at this distressing time.

"No further comment will be made other than to offer sincere thanks to the staff of University Hospital Ayr for their care and compassion."

Patrick Thistle representatives also released a statement which read: “It is with deep sadness that we confirm that lifelong Jags fan Colin Weir passed away earlier today."
