An event claiming to be the UK’s “biggest-ever” burger festival is heading to London late this summer.
Burger Festwill open in east London’s craft beer venue Signature Brew, not far from Tottenham Hale, from September 13-14, offering Londoners the chance to sample patties and buns from some of the UK’s most popular burger traders and chefs.
Those setting up shop include smash burger royalty Meatcastles, Italian cult-favourite Baggio Burger, and, arriving straight from Birmingham, Strip Club Street Food. Other confirmed names are Bun & Sum, 7Bone, Leytonstone Tavern, Smith’s of Bourton, and Texan barbeque smokehouse Black Cactus.
The festival is also offering up pints from Signature Brew and cocktails, with Netil Market’s Gordos debuting its cheeseburger pizza for one weekend only.
Burger Fest will also host the UK Burger Championships, where ticket holders can eat, drink, and vote to crown a burger “the People’s Champion”. Each trader will put forward a classic cheeseburger, priced at £10 or less, for tasting. And, lest you fill up too quickly, the burgers will also be available in halved portions.
According to co-founder of Burger Fest UK, Ned Boyd, the burger contest will put “the power in the hands of real fans”, with no judging panel, and just the ticket holders’ votes counting.
He explained: “We wanted to throw the ultimate burger and beer celebration. The UK Burger Championships puts the power in the hands of real fans, no panel of judges, no nonsense, just you lot deciding who wears the crown.
“Add in craft beer, cocktails and a line-up of the country’s most hyped burger traders, and you’ve got a weekend built for pure indulgence.”
More traders are expected to be announced via the festival’s Instagram (@burger_fest_uk).
