UK's biggest EuroMillions winners who scooped £161million divorce after 38 years

The UK's biggest ever lottery winners have divorced eight years after bagging a £161 million jackpot.

EuroMillions winners Colin and Christine Weir were granted a quickie divorce by a judge at the Court of Session in Edinburgh just days after they put their £3million former home on the market.

They had reportedly been living in separate mansions for several months after they 'drifted apart' when Colin, 71, went to Partick Thistle games while Christine, 62, attended charity events.

The couple's split come after lottery winners Adrian Bayford and wife Gillian broke up just 15 months after their £148million win in 2012.

A statement issued in April on behalf of Colin and Christine, from Largs, Ayreshire, said:  "It is with deep regret that Chris and Colin Weir confirm they have been living apart for some time and intend to divorce amicably.

"They ask that the family’s privacy is respected at this time and there will be no further comment."

The pair were married for 38 years and had two, now adult, children together before announcing their separation in April.

They reportedly divorced in May, but it had not been officially confirmed until this week.

Someone living close to Colin and Chris in Largs, Ayrshire, said in April: "The suggestion is that they’ve been apart for many, many months.

"People in their hometown of Largs had been talking about the rumours of their split as far back as last summer."

Retired cameraman Colin and retired psychiatric nurse, Christine, showed their caring side following their win by donating huge amounts of their jackpot win to good causes.

Colin helped refurbish Largs Thistle’s ground and gave more than £1million to Partick Thistle so they could set up a youth academy and clear debts.

Colin said previously: “I have been a Thistle fan since I was a boy and spent many hours at Firhill — some more enjoyable than others."

The National Theatre of Scotland also benefitted from the couple's huge win as they donated £1million.

Colin and Chris, now 62, also gave the SNP three £1million donations.
