UK runs out of Covid lateral flow tests on Freedom Day as millions order kits

Lateral flows tests, which tell people if they have coronavirus in less than half an hour, have run out.

It is reported that tests given out by the Government for free are no longer available as millions order kits on Freedom Day.

The website that allows people to order testing kits is now telling people to 'come back tomorrow.'

Everyone has been told to regularly test themselves as the country opens up with no more restrictions from today, the Mirror reports.

Up to now, senior school children and teachers have been doing tests twice a week to stay in the classroom.

However others can order the tests for free for their own peace of mind.

But on day one of no legal restrictions on social distancing and mask wearing, the government cannot keep up with demand for tests.

A message on the lateral flow test booking site reads: "Sorry no more tests can be ordered today.

"No more rapid lateral flow tests can be ordered online or through the call centre today.

"Please try again tomorrow when more tests will be available."

Lateral flow test can be carried out at home, and unlike the more sophisticated PCR tests, can produce a result within half an hour.

Anyone can order a pack, which contains seven tests and usually arrives through the post the next day.
