UK Royal Mint releases new Harry Potter coins celebrating 25 years of the series

The first book in the Harry Potter series by J.K. Rowling, titled 'Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone', was published in 1997 by Bloomsbury. And the rest, as they say, is history! Celebrating 25 years of the international bestselling books and the magical world of Harry Potter, the UK Royal Mint has released new Harry Potter-themed coins!

The Royal Mint makes officially the coins in the United Kingdom. "To celebrate the 25th anniversary of the publication of 'Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone', we have struck a range of spellbinding coins featuring a portrait of Harry Potter created by Jim Kay and Ffion Gwillim," the Royal Mint said in a statement on their website.

The Harry Potter collection will have four coins which are illustrated by Jim Kay, who has also illustrated the Harry Potter series. The coins feature not just Harry Potter, but also Albus Dumbledore, the Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, and the Hogwarts Express. The first-two Harry Potter-themed coins released this year also features portraits of Queen Elizabeth II, while the other two coins releasing next year will feature King Charles III on them.

And while the demand for the Harry Potter coins is expected to be high, only a small number of coins will be made in this theme.
