UK readers: try not to get too green with envy when you read this piece about how the Irish government plans to encircle 123 towns and cities with high-capacity fibre optic lines, all in a state-funded drive to encourage cheap broadband. It all makes the UK government's efforts (a £30m scheme was reannounced today, a year after it was first unveiled) seem... well, exactly what they are: paltry.
