A British rapper has defended himself amid accusations he was “mocking Islam” in a track released on a new album by D-Block Europe.

Krept and Konan feature on the new release PTSD, where he can be heard reciting an Arabic phrase that translates to “Praise be to Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.”

The bar has sparked outrage online with many arguing that reciting the Quran is disrespectful.

Krept, whose real name is Casyo Johnson, responded to angry tweets, telling one person: “If you mean every line you say it's definitely not mockery.

“Saying I will never sell my soul and praising God im being dead serious. So again your forcing outrage.’

In response to one person saying that playing music over the verse is disrespectful he said: “As a Muslim you should know actions are by intentions, and for every person is what he intended.

“I meant what I said and that's why I said it. Im being dead serious. And I’ve always been vocal about my religion on my music.”

He continued: “Because I mean what I say it's not degrading to me. I meant every word. I get why others may cos its just “bars” to them. It's not to me. I defo mean it and I will say it with my chest. love tho akh appreciate the convo.”

Many responded to the track by writing: “Krept is done”.

While another wrote: “What was Krept’s thought process behind that.”

Others accused the rapper of not having any boundaries while another said: “Reading verses of the holy book on a track? Really? No morals.”
