- Lumo, the budget, all-electric rail operator, will introduce Elon Musk 's Starlink Wi-Fi on its East Coast Main Line fleet this autumn.
- Starlink, operated by SpaceX, is a high-speed, low-latency satellite internet service utilising a low Earth orbit.
- The internet system will be installed on Lumo trains through a partnership with manufacturer Hitachi, connectivity provider Icomera, and rolling stock lease provider Beacon Rail.
- Passengers travelling between London King’s Cross, Stevenage, Newcastle, Morpeth, Edinburgh, Falkirk, and Glasgow will enjoy the “significant step forward in onboard connectivity”, said Lumo.
- According to Lumo, this initiative aims to provide a “more consistent, high-quality connection” across the East Coast Main Line, addressing the limitations of traditional trackside and mobile-based Wi-Fi systems.
