UK opinion poll: Jeremy Corbyn's Labour inches up on Boris Johnson as Tories' lead drops to single figures

Jeremy Corbyn's Labour party has crept up on Boris Johnson, with the Tories' lead now cut to nine points, according to a new poll.

Mr Johnson's party has generally held a double-figure advantage over their main opposition in recent surveys, but today's survey shows a drop to single figures.

The study by Survation, conducted from November 26 to 30, put the Conservatives on 42 per cent and Labour on 33.

This represented a three per cent boost for Mr Corbyn's group, which has seen slim gains on the Conservatives in recent surveys.

The poll indicated that nearly half of voters asked - 49 per cent - who backed Remain are now also supporting the Labour party.

The survey, conducted for GMB, also showed an increase in support for Mr Corbyn when respondents were asked about their preferred Prime Minister.

However, the gulf still remains at 18 points, with 43 per cent of people stating they feel Mr Johnson would be the best PM compared to 25 per cent who said Mr Corbyn.

Jo Swinson of the Lib Dems also saw a drop in this area, with a five per cent slip dropping her to 11 per cent.

It comes as an average of polls from the last seven days put the Tories on a 10 per cent lead.

Compiled by PA Media, the averages put the Conservatives on 43 per cent and Labour on 33.

The two main parties are set to resume their campaigns in earnest today, after a pause over the weekend following the London Bridge terror attack.

Mr Corbyn is set to announce plans to slash rail fares, while Mr Johnson will detail plans for tougher stances on border control post-Brexit.
