A British man has been arrested in Tenerife following the death of his girlfriend, who fell 12 storeys from the balcony of their holiday flat in the Canary Islands.
The woman, 25, who is also thought to be British, died instantly after falling from the apartment in Adeje, Tenerife. The couple and their five-year-old daughter, along with the accused’s father and his girlfriend, had been on the island since mid-May.
The deceased and her boyfriend were staying on the 12th floor of the complex and the incident occurred at around 2.20am on Friday morning, when neighbours say they heard an argument followed by a crash.
The accused and his father then reportedly found a security guard whom they led to the garden where the young woman lay dead, having suffered multiple fractures to her head, hips and arms.
The guard called police who questioned the three British citizens, but arrested the boyfriend after they watched CCTV footage from the hotel’s security cameras.
The footage allegedly shows that all four of the adults had been drinking when they returned to the Paraiso del Sur complex that evening.
According to media reports, the footage also shows the boyfriend entering his father’s room, and then returning to the room he shared with his girlfriend two minutes before her fatal fall.
The father’s girlfriend was also in the flat when the incident occurred but was in the bathroom and reportedly did not witness what took place. She and the father of the accused were released from custody on the understanding that they would be subject to further questioning.
The incident comes only a few weeks after a British man and his son were charged with the murder of another British man after a fight outside a tapas bar in Adeje, the same part of the island.
