Pubs and restaurants will only be allowed to serve customers outside as cases of the Omicron variant spread, the Daily Star reports.

The BBC reports that leaked minutes of a meeting of the Scientific Advisory Group for Emergencies held on Thursday said scientists have told ministers that tougher measures need to be brought in “very soon”.

As such, the government is reported to be drawing up plans for a two week circuit breaker lockdown after Christmas.

The Welsh government said it would close nightclubs from December 27 and impose a two-metre social distancing rule in offices.

But it remains to be seen whether the circuit breaker begins the same day in England. and as of now, the plans have yet to reach ministerial level and have not been officially confirmed.
