UK hospital deaths rise by 62 as Scotland and Northern Ireland record no new fatalities

The coronavirus UK death toll has risen by just 62 in today's update, with Scotland once again recording no new deaths.

In England there were a further 59 Covid-19 deaths recorded and three more were reported in Wales.

But both Scotland and Northern Ireland again recorded zero deaths, with hopes growing that tragedies will continue to decrease across the country.

A statement from NHS England said: "A further 59 people, who tested positive for the Coronavirus (Covid-19) have died, bringing the total number of confirmed reported deaths in hospitals in England to 27,490.

"Patients were aged between 34 and 100 years old.  Three patients (aged between 54 and 68) had known underlying health conditions.

"Their families have been informed."

The NHS said that while no London deaths had been reported today, a small number did occur that will be announced in the coming days.

There are also continued warnings about a lag in reporting data from over the weekend.

The UK government's official coronavirus death toll now stands at 40, 597.

Sadly, the Office for National Statistics data suggests this number will be significantly higher overall.

As of today Brits were more afforded more freedoms as the coronavirus lockdown continued to be eased.

One major change that is set to take effect is the opening of dentists in England.

Dentists have been told they can begin taking appointments and open their doors to patients again.

Although dentists were permitted to perform emergency treatment during the lockdown, everyday appointments for fillings and crowns were cancelled to stop the spread of the virus.
