UK holidaymakers must pay visa fee to enter popular European resorts from 2022

UK visitors will be forced to pay almost £6 to enter many popular European holiday destinations from next year.

The charge of €7 per person must be paid by all British passport holders and travellers must also pre-register their details to enter the European Union.

It is expected to be introduced from the end of 2022, and is set to be an entry requirement for short-term visitors from visa-exempt countries like the UK.

The UK’s exit from the European Union has caused a lot of uncertainty about the future of the relationship between the two and what Brexit means for travel and business.

A spokesperson for the European Commission has confirmed all that British travellers will have to pay the visa fee. It will allow UK citizens to spend up to 90 days within a 180-day period in EU countries, which could cause massive issues for holiday home owners in countries like Spain, Portugal and France.

Holidaymakers to favourite tourist hotspots will also be forced to stump up the cash.

The so-called European Travel and Information and Authorisation Scheme (ETIAS) enables citizens of 61 non-EU countries to visit the EU Schengen area with travel pre-authorisation, rather than a full visa, reports City A.M..

The European Commission confirmed the payment and pre-registration will apply for any trips to all Schengen area states, plus the non-Schengen destinations of Andorra and Monaco.

It will be needed for any trip to Austria, Belgium, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Germany, France, Spain, Portugal, Sweden, Finland, Denmark, Lithuania, Latvia, San Marino, Estonia, Poland, Slovakia, Hungary, Slovenia, Italy, Greece, Czech Republic, Malta, Monaco, Liechtenstein, Iceland, Norway, Switzerland Vatican City.
