UK heatwave: London Ambulance Service records highest ever number of life-threatening emergencies

  • The London Ambulance Service recorded its highest ever number of life-threatening emergencies on Wednesday.
  • The unprecedented demand was attributed to the “extreme heat” affecting the capital.
  • It responded to 642 category one calls, which include the most serious and life-threatening incidents.
  • More than 400 additional ambulance crews have been deployed amid the heatwave , the London Ambulance Service said earlier.
  • Chief executive Jason Killens KAM said: “Our crews are working very hard in challenging conditions to care for patients and I would like to take this opportunity to thank all our people for their incredible hard work.”
