UK weather LIVE: Beaches and parks packed on hottest August day in 17 years

Britons are flocking to beaches around the UK on the hottest August day in 17 years.

Temperatures have already hit 36.5C in Kew Gardens, making it the hottest August day since 2003.

The Met Office has issued a hot weather alert, warning people not to get "caught out" by the sudden rise in temperatures.

But sunseekers appeared undettered as they visited beaches up and down the country, including Brighton and Bournemouth .
