UK heatwave could switch to foggy haze as Edinburgh temperatures continue to soar

Edinburgh has enjoyed some of the hottest temperatures to date this week, and the best is yet to come, with Thursday to reach highs of 29°C by midday.

With the summer heat finally kicking in after a later start this year, the people of Edinburgh have flocked to beaches and various tourist attractions, as coronavirus restrictions eased further on Monday.

This heatwave may be short-lived in stature, however, as the meteorologists at the Met Office have predicted Edinburgh to experience lots of fog and bursts of heavy rain across the weekend.

The new forecast has pushed back the initial thunderstorm we expected this weekend, till the beginning of next week.

The long range weather forecast states, "A turn to more unsettled weather throughout this period. While temperatures dip back to near normal for most it will remain warm across Scotland...Monday and Tuesday sees further scattered and heavy (possibly thundery) showers.'

A more specific forecast from BBC Weather has expressed that, "Friday is expected to be a mostly dry day with sunny spells for many, but eastern areas will see cloud pushing in at times. Just a chance of the odd shower in the south.

"Saturday will be mostly dry and sunny, but with low cloud lingering along eastern coasts.

"Sunday looks to be mostly dry with sunny spells, but a few spells of rain may just reach the south of Scotland."

Thankfully, the rest of this week is looking to stay the same, in terms of humid heat and little to no cloud across the capital.

Tonight's forecast

Dry with some warm sunshine this evening. Low cloud will develop across the east through the night, the southwest staying dry and clear. Warm, locally very warm in the southwest. Minimum temperature 15 °C.

Tomorrow's forecast

Low cloud in the east burning back to North Sea coasts through the morning. Otherwise it will be dry sunny. Hot again, but cooler across Edinburgh, Lothian and eastern Borders. Maximum temperature 29 °C.

Outlook for Friday to Sunday

Little change, overnight low cloud burning off to leave plenty of dry and sunny weather. Still very warm, cooler along the east coast.
