Supermarkets in England will not be banned from selling non-essential items during lockdown, says UK Government.
In Wales, the Welsh Government stopped supermarkets from selling certain good deemed non-essential during the firebreak - like electrical items and clothes.
The guidance was implemented just before the firebreak started last month and caused confusion in stores.
There was a backlash from some shoppers and revised guidance was then issued after discussions with retailers.
Today it was reported that the UK Government was proposing a watered down version of the measure - asking supermarkets to close off certain non-essential aisles.
But UK Government has told Business Live this is not correct.
A spokesman tonight said: "These claims are false.
"Items will not be cordoned off."
