UK Foreign Office changes its travel advice for cruise ship holidays

The Foreign & Commonwealth Office (FCO) has changed its travel advice for cruise ships as the coronavirus pandemic continues.

The government body is urging UK holidaygoers to not travel on a cruise ship and if you have one booked, to speak to your travel operator.

The FCO published a statement on Thursday saying they “advise against cruise ship travel at this time.”

It continued: “This is due to the ongoing pandemic and is based on medical advice from Public Health England.”

The government will continue to review its cruise ship travel advice based on the latest medical advice, the statement added.

Previous advice published on March 12 advised that Britons aged over 70 and those with underlying health conditions should not travel on cruise ships.

The latest update comes as the government relaxed its blanket ban on international travel.

A list of 76 countries was published from which travellers no longer have to quarantine for 14 days on their return to the UK.

The UK’s biggest cruise line, P&O Cruises, has suspended all sailings until mid-October.
