UK forecast: 'Very warm' weather this weekend but heavy showers possible

Many of us will get some warm and sunny weather this weekend but the Met Office has warned people to expect the odd heavy shower too.

Yesterday was one of the hottest April 10's on record, thanks to a 800 mile-wide Canary Islands heat plume blowing into Britain.

The glorious weather is set to continue today (April 11), with the Met Office saying there will be 'long sunny spells' for many in the south.

However, this may be followed by scattered showers later on in the afternoon.

The weather agency says: "Occasional rain in the north should clear quite promptly leaving some sunshine.

"Further south, long warm sunny spells, very warm for some, but scattered heavy showers possible during the afternoon."

It will then remain warm on Sunday. albeit with rain showers further northwest, before it gets 'chilly' but dry starting from Monday (April 13).

The outlook for Sunday to Tuesday says: "On Sunday remaining warm in the southeast, but cooler with rain and showers further northwest

"Turning widely chilly, dry and mostly bright from Monday onwards."

This weekend, Bristolians can expect lots of sunshine and possible highs of 22C today followed by some cloudy weather on Sunday.
