UK forecast: Dry weather to make way for heavy rain showers

Today's fine and dry weather for most of the country will make way for some heavy showers from tomorrow.

The Met Office says today (March 16) will be dry for most of England and Wales after a chilly start in the morning.

However, Scotland and Northern Ireland will turn cloudier and windier with some outbreaks of rain.

This rain will then sink slowly south later in the week, becoming heavy in places on Tuesday (March 17).

It will also be mild and breezy during the week, becoming much colder from the north.

Bristol in particular can expect plenty of sunshine today before cloudy conditions and the occasional light rain shower arrives tomorrow.

Here's the UK weather forecast from the Met Office:

Monday:

After a chilly and largely bright start, most of England and Wales will remain fine and dry. Scotland and Northern Ireland will turn cloudier and windier with outbreaks of rain.

Outlook for Tuesday to Thursday:

Rain across Scotland and Northern Ireland, heavy in places on Tuesday, will sink slowly south through Wednesday and Thursday. Mild and breezy at first; becoming much colder from the north.
