UK firms get boost from Avengers: Endgame box office success

Framestore, the British special effects firm which worked on Avengers: Endgame, was cheered on Monday after the Disney film made box office history, with takings of $1.2 billion (£1.1 billion) in its opening weekend.

Fiona Walkinshaw, Framestore’s global managing director, film, said her firm has worked on a number of Marvel Cinematic Universe films.

She told the Standard: “With each film we've had to push our creativity and our tech.” It has helped cement “London's status as one of the best places in the world for visual effects".

Cinemas in the UK also benefited from a surge in customer numbers. Crispin Lilly, the boss of the Everyman cinema chain, said it was a “terrific weekend” with “venues all over London, and indeed the country, selling out”.

A spokesman at Vue International said: “When you combine an amazing blockbuster movie like Avengers: Endgame with state-of-the-art cinemas and the incredible expertise of Disney, you break records. At Vue, in just one of our 10 markets, we had a record breaking weekend with admissions of well over 1 million in the UK, with 500,000 admissions on Saturday alone.”
