UK extreme heat weather warning: How hot will it be in Glasgow?

With temperatures set to soar above 33c across parts of the UK this week, the Met Office issued its first ever 'amber extreme heat warning'.

The warning - which is similar to those issued when heavy rain or snow is forecast - will remain in force until the end of Thursday.

The amber alert covers a large part of Wales, all of south-west England and parts of southern and central England but not Scotland - however, Glasgow is set to experience its hottest day of the year so far this week.

But just how warm will it be in our city?

The Met Office forecasts temperatures of up to 26c today (Tuesday), Wednesday and Thursday, before beginning to cool on Friday and across the weekend.

At midnight this evening, it will still be 17c in Glasgow.

Meanwhile, at around 7am on Wednesday morning, we'll experience humidity of around 90%.

And Glaswegians will be well advised to protect themselves against the sun - forecasters warn of a high UV rating of 7 at around 1pm this afternoon.

Looking to the days ahead, the Met Office says:

All parts will have a dry and sunny day. Becoming very warm or hot, onshore breezes will keep coasts a little cooler. Chance of a little mist along the Argyll coast. Maximum temperature 27 °C.

Tonight:

Dry with some warm sunshine this evening. Mist and low cloud developing across the Central Belt in the early hours, and the west coast. A warm night to come. Minimum temperature 15 °C.

Wednesday:

Overnight low cloud soon burning off to leave a dry, sunny and very warm or hot day. Chance of some patchy coastal mist in the northwest. Maximum temperature 28 °C.

Outlook for Thursday to Saturday:

Little change. Staying dry, sunny and very warm or hot. Some early low cloud in the Central Belt burning off in the mornings.
