UK Eurovision entry Michael Rice speaks out after coming last in competition

Michael Rice has spoken out after the UK's entry came bottom of the leader board at the Eurovision Song Contest 2019 .

The 64th edition of the competition took place on Saturday night (May 19) in Tel Aviv, Israel and was won by the Netherlands contestant Duncan Laurence.

The Dutch singer has been a consistent favourite with the bookies to be crowned champion and he didn't dissapoint.

And sadly, as has become all too familiar, it wasn't the UK's night meaning it has still been more than 20 years since the UK won in 1997 with Love Shine a Light by Katrina and the Waves.

But 21-year-old Michael has thanked fans for their supporting, insisting he and his team still "smashed it".

He wrote on his Twitter page: "Just want to say thank you for all the amazing messages of support! Me and my team have smashed this whole entire journey and I'm just so proud!!

"I'm walking away with memories, friends, amazing fans and an experience of a lifetime!

"This is just the start, thank you for believing in me."

The former X Factor contestant and All Together Now winner performed his track 'Bigger Than Us', but the UK only awarded 16 points overall.

Graham Norton, who commentated on the Eurovision Song Contest live on the BBC , was seemingly annoyed by the results himself.

After the results had been read, the Irish TV and radio presenter said: "Michael really does not deserve to be in last place. That is so unfair."

Well, there's always next year.
