UK Eurovision entry Michael Rice blames Brexit for last place position

Michael Rice says that he isn’t surprised with his last place position in Eurovision - because of Brexit.

The UK entry has said that even if he was Gary Barlow he probably would have come last.

He came 26th with 16 points at the 64th edition of the competition, which took place in Tel Aviv, Israel, on Saturday.

The former X Factor contestant and All Together Now winner performed his track 'Bigger Than Us', but the UK was only awarded 16 points overall.

The competition was won by the Netherlands contestant Duncan Laurence with his ballad Arcade.

Michael told The Sun: "I always knew I was going to come in this position because of Brexit .

“Do you know what? If it was Gary Barlow or Elton John, they still probably would have come last too.”

The last time the UK won the annual competition was in 1997 with Katrina and the Waves and the song Love Shine a Light.

Despite his lowly place, on the night Michael, 21, has thanked fans for their supporting him, insisting he and his team still "smashed it".

Michael took to Instagram where he wrote: "We absolutely f***ing smashed it last night, regardless of the result! I’m so happy!!!

"We have worked so hard everyday for the past 4 months solid, I’ve made memories for a lifetime that I will treasure & made some really good friends from this & most importantly have the best family around me!

"We put everything into last nights performance and just had so much fun on that stage!"
