UK Covid LIVE: New daily Covid-19 cases up 90 per cent in a week as young liken vaccine queue to Glastonbury

New daily Covid cases in Britain rose today by 90 per cent on a week ago in what is said to be the biggest weekly percentage rise since before Christmas.

The latest figures released on Tuesday by the Government showed another 6,048 new cases and 13 coronavirus deaths were recorded in the past 24 hours, compared to 3,165 cases last Tuesday.

It comes as ministers continue to weigh up whether or not the lockdown roadmap can proceed with stage four on June 21, amid reports of a two-week delay.

Meanwhile the NHS has reported a web meltdown as over-25s jam up the vaccine booking system.

Allowed to book from 6am this morning people reported being held in a queue of thousands, and likened it to booking Glastonbury tickets.

Meanwhile, travel list changes have come into force in the UK with an influx of people returning from Portugal ahead of the 4am deadline on Tuesday.

It comes after the Government’s controversial decision to remove Portugal from its green travel list. Seven countries have also been added to the red list.
