UK Covid LIVE: Levels lowest since September but vaccines minister rules out bringing forward roadmap

Covid case rates are at the lowest since the start of September

Covid case rates have dropped below 50 cases per 100,000 people in more than 95 per cent of local areas of the UK, new analysis shows.

It is the first time since the start of September that as many as 19 in 20 areas have seen their rates plunge below such a symbolic level. Around one in 10 areas are even recording rates in single figures.

However, vaccines minister Nadhim Zahawi said there was still a need to be "careful" rather than accelerating the UK’s reopening schedule.

He also warned there is still a risk for those purchasing summer festival tickets, even though he said the country looks on course to lift all coronavirus restrictions by June 21.
