Turkey, the Maldives, and Nepal will be added to the red list due to surging cases there, the government said on Friday.
Those returning from these countries will need to quarantine in a hotel for 10 days at their own cost.
Speaking at Downing Street press conference Grant Shapps said: “We must make sure the countries we reconnect with are safe.”
However, Portugal, Gibraltar and Israel will be on the green travel list from next month.
Britons will be able to travel to these countries without needing to self-isolate on their return, although they will need to take a PCR test.
Non-essential overseas travel has been banned in the UK for four months to stop the spread of Covid-19.
