Matt Hancock has revealed the UK is launching a world-first Covid vaccine booster trial amid concern over rising cases of the Indian variant in the UK.
Speaking at Downing Street press conference, the health secretary also announced seven out of 10 UK adults have now had at least one Covid jab.
His comments come after Boris Johnson told Prime Minister’s Questions there was increasing confidence that vaccines worked against the variant.
Mr Hancock told MPs on Wednesday that afternoon than nearly 3,000 cases of the more transmissable variant have now been detected.
Meanwhile the vaccine roll-out continues with 36-year-olds in England being offered the chance to book one from today.
