UK Covid deaths drop by almost a quarter week-on-week in lowest Tuesday total of year

The UK's Covid death toll has dropped by almost a quarter over the last week.

The Government said a further 799 people had died within 28 days of testing positive for Covid-19 as of today, bringing the UK total to 118,195.

Separate figures published by the UK’s statistics agencies for deaths where Covid-19 has been mentioned on the death certificate, together with additional data on deaths that have occurred in recent days, show there have now been 137,000 deaths involving Covid-19 in the UK.

The Government also said that, as of 9am today, there had been a further 10,625 lab-confirmed cases of coronavirus in the UK, reports the Mirror.

It brings the total number of cases in the UK to 4,058,468.

Last Tuesday the death toll rose by 1,052 and infections increased by 12,364.

On the same day the previous week, a further 1,449 coronavirus deaths were recorded with 16,840 more infections.

The previous Tuesday 1,631 fatalities and 20,089 new cases were reported.

Government data up to February 15 shows that of the 16,122,272 jabs given in the UK so far, 15,576,107 were first doses – a rise of 275,956 on the previous day.

Some 546,165 were second doses, an increase of 6,535 on figures released the previous day.
