UK court says children can be vaccinated against mother's wishes

Two children must be vaccinated against a range of diseases despite their mother’s concerns, a judge has ruled.

Mr Justice MacDonald says the children, aged six and four, must be given childhood vaccines currently specified on an NHS vaccination schedule.

The youngsters’ parents are separated and embroiled in a family court dispute over care.

Their mother objected to vaccination and raised a number of concerns.

She said the “side effects” were “more detrimental” than the diseases.

But their father wanted the children vaccinated and asked the judge to make an order.

Mr Justice MacDonald, who is based in the Family Division of the High Court in London, has made an order after considering evidence at a recent hearing.

The judge said he was satisfied that vaccinations were in the best interests of the children.

He has not identified the family involved.
