The UK discovered the true toll of coronavirus deaths today when the Government unveils figures for fatalities in hospitals, care homes and the community.
A total of 26,097 people have died in the UK with the virus as of 5pm on Tuesday. There has previously been a lag in numbers between hospitals and other settings, such as care homes.
It came as Boris Johnson and Carrie Symonds announced the birth of a "healthy" baby boy, their first child together. The Prime Minister, who has recently returned to work after his own treatment for Covid-19, is set to delay his paternity leave amid the coronavirus outbreak.
Dominic Raab stood in for Mr Johnson at PMQs, where Labour leader Sir Keir Starmer called on the Government to publish a lockdown strategy to prevent England "falling behind" other countries.
