UK coronavirus LIVE: Boris Johnson warns public against 'taking liberties' as UK death toll rises by 186

Boris Johnson has warned the public against "taking liberties " after thousands of sunseekers flouted social distancing rules and flocked to the coast.

The Prime Minister said there was a danger of a "serious spike" in coronavirus infections if people failed to follow the rules as lockdown measures eased.

It came after Matt Hancock said beaches and other public areas could be closed, although the Prime Minister's spokesman later rowed back on the threat.

Figures released by the Department of Health today show that a further 186 people in the UK have died after testing positive from coronavirus.

But in Scotland, a significant landmark was reached after the country saw no new deaths over a 24-hour period – the first time this has happened on a weekday since before lockdown began.

However, celebrations in the country were short-lived as news of a devastating attack emerged from Glasgow city centre.
