The UK's lockdown will continue for another three weeks at least, the Government has announced, amid warnings that the country will have to practise social distancing until a vaccine is found.
Dominic Raab confirmed the decision at this afternoon's Downing Street press briefing, stressing: "If we rush to relax the measures that we have in place we would risk wasting all the sacrifices and all the progress that has been made."
The move came as the country's coronavirus death toll among hospital patients rose by 861 to 13,729 – up from 12,868 the day before.
Meanwhile, Brits across the country have joined together in a sign of gratitude to key workers and to army veteran Captain Tom Moore, 99, who set out to raise £1,000 for the NHS but has now received more than £15million in donations.
