UK coronavirus LIVE: Vaccine development to be 'backed to the hilt' as hospital deaths top 17,000

The number of coronavirus deaths in UK hospitals topped 17,000 today.

However, statistics from the ONS suggested the total deaths could be far higher when those outside of hospital are included.

Elsewhere, Health Secretary Matt Hancock vowed to back vaccine development, as he announced human trials will start this week.

Meanwhile, the House of Commons today returns following the Easter recess, amid mounting criticism of the Government over its handling of the outbreak.
