The Government has ramped up its mission to find a coronavirus vaccine by creating a cross-sector "taskforce" of experts.
Business Secretary Alok Sharma announced the move at this afternoon's Downing Street press conference, just minutes after a further 847 Covid-19 deaths were recorded in hospitals across the UK.
It came as Chancellor Rishi Sunak announced that the Government’s furlough scheme has been extended by another month until the end of June.
Meanwhile a leading public health expert has warned that the UK could see up to 40,000 deaths from the outbreak, because ministers were "too slow" to act.
