
Boris Johnson has given his strongest indication yet that pubs and restaurants will be able to open in England from next month, as the country's transmission rate continues to drop.
The Prime Minister hinted at a fresh easing of lockdown restrictions this lunchtime, after Britain's coronavirus alert level was reduced from four to three.
It comes as the Covid-19 reproduction number – known as the R value – dropped below one across England, in a sign that the infection is slowing its spread across the UK.
In other developments, Welsh First Minister Mark Drakeford announced the easing of restrictions in Wales from Monday. And in more sombre news, data published by the Office For National Statistics suggests black men are at the highest risk of dying from Covid-19, with South Asian men also disproportionately affected by the disease.
