UK coronavirus live: Johnson & Johnson vaccine rollout set to resume in the US

Health regulators in the US have lifted a pause on Johnson & Johnson vaccinations after the jab was suspended for 11 days amid blood clot concerns.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said the jab could be rolled out again but would carry a warning label about the potential for extremely rare blood clots.

Health officials on Friday identified nine more cases of the blood clots, adding to six cases already identified since regulators first approved the jab as safe and effective in February.

All were women, most under the age of 50. Three died and seven remain in hospital.

In total, fifteen Americans have suffered blood clots after receiving the jab out of around eight million recipients.

Europe’s drug regulator has also ended restrictions on the J&J vaccine after finding the benefits of the vaccine outweigh the risk.
