UK coronavirus LIVE: Vaccine rollout extended to over 60s as deaths plunge to lowest in months

Matt Hancock has formally invited people aged 60 and over to come forward for a Covid-19 vaccination as he revealed new data showing the jabs are driving down fatalities and hospitalisations.

The Health Secretary made the call as new figures showed 104 more people have died within 28 days of testing positive for coronavirus - the lowest number since October.

Meanwhile a Sage scientist warned challenges such as the Brazilian coronavirus variant could mean the nation needs to “go backwards” in terms of lifting the Covid lockdown.

Health officials are trying to locate one of six people in the UK believed to have contracted the Manaus variant of coronavirus.
