UK coronavirus LIVE: Restrictions set to tighten before Christmas but 10pm curfew could be relaxed

Restrictions will tighten in build-up to Xmas

Coronavirus restrictions are set to tighten ahead of Christmas, although the unpopular 10pm curfew may be scrapped.

England will enter a strengthened three-tiered system of local restrictions when the lockdown ends on December 2 as the Government plans for the public to see loved ones at Christmas. It is understood the controversial 10pm curfew on pubs and restaurants will be altered under the new system.

The “Covid winter plan” is expected to place more areas into the higher tiers to keep the virus under control to ensure further restrictions are not needed, No 10 said. Boris Johnson is also expected to detail his plan for winter, which includes details on how families can see their loved ones at Christmas, to MPs on Monday.

It comes as Manchester Mayor Andy Burnham urged the Government not to let “everything loose” over Christmas.
